Why you should put branding before marketing, and mindset before branding

Have you ever created something? No matter if it was a piece of art, a cake, reconditioned an old motorcycle, or built a relationship? Every one of us has created many things in their lives, and we all know how deeply involved we can be in the process and how much we love the outcome, how PROUD we are, and what confidence boost it gives us, don't we?


What was your mindset and vision when you set out to do it? What energy did that unleash inside you, that made you so focused on the mission of getting what you wanted?


There was a huge driver behind the achievement, no matter how big or small. And that driver comes from a place deep within us, where our values are at home. It is the place where our magic happens and is born, and although it might not be logical to you yet, this is where I want to start and bring the mindset together with branding.

Let me ask you, what do you understand branding is?


Do you find yourself in the mindset of “It’s unimportant!”, “It’s a waste of money!”, or “Isn’t it just some colours and a logo?”. Might you find yourself thinking: “Oh my, I’d love a good branding, but how?”, or “I want to, but I can’t! It will draw attention to me!”


There are several things going on here:


  1. Branding is pure psychology and strategy, that makes us want to buy things, and the whole commercial world is built on it. It is there to spark emotions in our ideal clients and to show them what your passion and mission is and help them identify with your core values.

  2. Branding happens in the very moment when you show up for your business, and people will remember how you and your business made them feel.

  3. Mindset happens in the moments when money priorities are set to limiting beliefs (“It’s a waste of money.” – actually, it’s one of the best investments you can make in your business, because it’s the basis at all your marketing).

  4. Mindset is being held back by the lack of knowledge but not seeking out those who do know, and the biggest one is that there’s a fear of attention and being visible. When you are an introvert like me, having to be visible is one of THE most daunting things in business, and can hinder us greatly in becoming successful.

When we stick with the last example, let me ask you some questions:

  • Do you think that having a framework, that gives you direction and structure would help with gaining confidence?

  • Do you think that having the embodiment of who you are and what you stand for would help you stay on track – or come back on to the track when there’s a rough patch?

  • Do you think that it would be helpful to have your core values visually and therefore emotionally speak to your most favourite, future, and existing clients?


You do, don’t you?


Your mindset is here at the basis of all things, and the brand is your tool in helping you reaching your goals and build and leave the legacy that you so much desire to leave.
